SSR Nation,
We want to start by briefly addressing some questions that have been raised in response to this new blog series and the types of information we intend to share within the series. Currently there is a formal P&L and a report of cash being produced every month. Given some of the ongoing issues we are facing, it will not be shared beyond the Board of Directors at this time. This series will expand and include more over time, but for now, it will remain a snapshot of SSR finances we are choosing to put forth in an effort to provide some insight for the SSR Nation. We have been reviewing what is shared by other rescues, and many seem to take the approach we are, and share the special project/fundraiser or hard luck case with an annual release of more data. We would like to remind the readers that sharing really any financial information is brand new to SSR, but will be how we operate moving forward.
Treasurer's Report - 08/20/2024
Where did July leave us?
We finished July with a $26.5k monthly deficit, which was better than June. We are grateful to our supporters who have sent in donations to allow us to continue to help the dogs in SSR’s care.
Financial highlights:
Vet bills were roughly half of what they were in June - $10k v $19k. Chewy, Amazon and RX supplies increased temporarily to $4.5k as we sought to replace various emergency meds and monthly preventatives. Boarding costs were considerably higher - $18k versus $11k for last month, but this included adding a Virginia dog to board and train, as well as catching up with the Houston facility where bringing invoices current meant a double charge for the month. As of mid-August, only three dogs we have access to are still in Texas boarding and we hope to have them north in the coming weeks. There are a few dogs that remain in Texas boarding which SSR has no access to at this time, so we anticipate boarding costs will jump again when we can eventually pay those bills and move the dogs north.
There was no large invoice in July to report on, so we are sharing a handful of miscellaneous invoices that cover some of what we dealt with in July.
We mentioned the end of July that we needed a private transport to get Princess’s puppies north due to where they were with vaccinations. July invoices included testing for the parasites they had, treatment for those awful hitchhikers, and final tests to ensure they were healthy enough for adoption. All but Flynn have found loving homes. Flynn is an adorable cutie pie so if you are looking for a loving addition to your family, please give him a look. A couple of the invoices – we had them for all the puppies – are included further below.
As you know if you follow SSR, over the years we have accumulated more than a dozen dogs that are now "fospice" care dogs, meaning their medical needs are covered by SSR. These dogs require all the regular vet appointments your personal dogs will require plus some additional visits for their terminal conditions. Skittles and Jersey visited the vets in July and some invoices are included below.
Finally, with three dogs in board and train rather than vet boarding, we needed to send Snowy to the vet for a checkup and a health certificate before we could get her north. That invoice is also included here.
As always thank you for your interest in SSR and your support. Stay tuned for the next Treasurer's Report!
