Treasurer’s Report – 01/28/2025

General Update

SSR Nation,

As we work toward the legal resolution of the case with the former SSR VP, there will be less financial information released in a public forum.  We apologize, and will release individual invoices for the care of specific dogs as we can.

Unfortunately, due to the continued external efforts to sabotage SSR from fundraising for the care of our dogs, donations and adoption fees continue to not fully cover vet costs. As a result, we are drawing down on pre-May 2024 donations to make sure SSR dogs continue to get the vet care they need, despite continued external attempts to prevent this. We remain committed to ensuring our dogs continue to get the best care possible.

Theo & Freya's Surgery UPDATE

We are happy to report that Theo and Freya are doing great, and you can find some updates about them on our Facebook page!

Checks were written to SSR to cover some of Theo’s and Freya’s surgery after, shockingly, the former VP reached out to several fundraising portals and pressured them not to allow SSR to raise the money for these dog's care or any future dog's care. We are deeply disappointed by the actions of SSR's former VP, who purports to only care about the dogs, yet through her actions, proves otherwise. Sadly, the concerted actions of the former VP of SSR against our organization has left SSR's dogs as the unfortunate victims.

Update on Pledge Spending

This post is going to concern the “Pledge” made in March and April to provide $25,000 to help clear Billy’s Street, which was rescinded when the checks were not cashed after a month, and when it became apparent that if the former VP of SSR cashed the checks there was no way to guarantee the funds would be used to pay the vets, boarders, and transporters who were helping the dogs secured from Billy’s Street and during that weekend.

Attached is how the funds were spent.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

The Boarding line item denotes the vet boarding bills for the 18 puppies that were rescued from Billy’s Street and in a TikTok video made that weekend.  While we had some fosters and adopters step up immediately (for which we are very grateful), the puppies without fosters needed to remain in vet boarding in Texas to ensure they were healthy enough to travel north.  Boarding ran $140 a week plus vet services for the dogs.

More on Billy's Street Mission

In the initial chaos, as dogs were abandoned, funds were used to cover open vet bills from that weekend -including some who were not Billy's Street dogs but were dogs that the former VP of SSR pulled that weekend.  This includes initial fees for Ollie, Timber, Sophie and Levi, Freda, Victoria and Ruger.

Below is a list of additional expenses covered by the donation pledge:

  • One dog required a week of hospitalization and a couple of others were taken to the vet to be checked out.  Those costs were covered.

  • Spay/neuter costs were covered for some dogs.  Others were picked up by adopters in return for reduced adoption fees.

  • Transport north and then transport south from foster to new adoption homes were covered.

  • Some of the funds were used in SSR marketing efforts so that donations made to the dogs did not use up any funds.  A volunteer also kicked in for some marketing expenses out of her personal account.

  • Donations were made to rescue partners who helped secure the dogs, arrange spay/neuter surgery and find adopters.

  • Funds were sent to the foster for Princess’s puppies as she needed to skip work to care for the puppies when they were sick and needed funds to keep the puppies cool in the Texas heat.

  • Preventative meds were orders from the pledge dollars for all SSR fosters.

  • Some minor office costs were covered.

Separately, SSR continues to need fosters to allow us to save dogs.  We have one pup in boarding who was returned to us through no fault of her own.  She would love to be back in a house and volunteers who have spent time with her find her to be a joy.  We have been fortunate that a couple of fosters stepped up in emergency situations to allow us to take in a couple of puppies who otherwise would have ended up at local shelters with uncertain futures.  Ideally, we would love to have some fosters step up to be in the wings so that we can contact them when there is an emergency.

SSR Fospice Dogs

SSR continues to support 8 fospice dogs pulled over the years.  These dogs have medical issues that cost about $1,500 a month.  We would greatly appreciate your support to help us care for our fospice pups. We plan to announce a fospice sponsorship program in the near future, and can't wait to share it with you!

Thank you for reading.
